Old fashion trends have a habit of coming back, and this 90s inspired high side ponytail is no exception. Here's what a 21st century pony looks like: from Valley Girl to Va Va Voom!
Where the nineties were all about slick poker-straight hair, these days we're more into our curls than our flat irons. Despite this, this high and curly ponytail still has a 1990s twist to it, literally, as the curls have a playful crimped effect.
Keeping it loose
If we were to define what differentiates 2017 hair from 90s hair, it all comes down to one thing: relaxation. Even with a high ponytail, the impression is of loose, relaxed hair – none of those tight, pulled back looks that were so on-trend twenty+ years ago. Today, it's all about natural (but not going anywhere) hair.
How to get the look
Step 1: After washing your hair in the evening, apply gel. Tie your hair in a braid, starting at the nape of the neck and leave to dry overnight (or blow dry).
Step 2: In the morning, untie your hair and run your fingers through the curls to break them up slightly.
Step 3. For a messy matte texture, spritz some Messy Cliché hairspray by Tecni.ART to the lengths and ends.
Step 4. Separate one small section of hair (2/3 inches thick) from the top of your head.
Step 5. Flick hair upside down and use an elastic to tie hair up into a very high ponytail, almost nearing your forehead and slightly to one side. Return to standing position.
Step 6. Use the piece of hair you separated earlier to hide the elastic by wrapping it around and over the base of the ponytail, discretely tucking in the ends.
And there you have it: a modern take on the nineties high side ponytail!
