Learn how to create this gorgeous hybrid hairstyle in just five simple steps
Is it a ponytail? Or is it a bun? It's both, it's neither - and it's everything! The combination of a classic ponytail, styled into an unexpected bun and featuring some subtle braiding is officially our new favourite way to wear our hair up. Here's how you can recreate the hybrid look...
The braided ponytail bun
Step one: Start with healthy hair
Healthy and voluminous lengths are a must when recreating this look. We recommend regular visits to the salon for trims as well as treatments tailored to your hair concerns. Check out the Serie Expert Powermix treatment for a personalized service. From under-nourished to dry or color-faded hair, there's a Powermix out there to help you.
Step two: How to achieve a matte texture
The textured matte finish of this look gives it an urban edge. The Wild Stylers Crêpage de Chingon spray is ideal for creating this texture: its micro-powder blends into dry hair to instantly give a voluminous, matte appearance, ready for you to style your hybrid ponytail-bun.
Step three: An ultra-thick demi-braid
You might not see it at first, but this style actually features an element of braiding to create the dense ponytail/bun effect. Simply tie hair into a low ponytail, then loosely braid the hair (the messier the better), stopping halfway down the lengths.
Step four: Tuck and tousle
Take the unbraided section of your ponytail, and tuck it underneath the braid, securing it into an elastic at the nape of your neck. Then, take a tail comb and deliberately remove small sections of hair from the braid, wrapping some up and around the braided bun, while leaving others loose to create a romantic, wispy effect.
Step five: Secure the look
To give the finished look long lasting hold, a mist of hairspray is a must. Sprtiz Hairspray all over to control all those wispy sections and keep the hairstyle in place.
