Is a dry hot summer combined with hanging out in an air-conditioned environment turned your 'do into a mess of static? Here are our top tips for beating the static frizz!
Adapt your hair care routine
The number one thing to understand about static is it occurs when the hair is lacking moisture. If you're currently contending with static ridden locks, then your first step is to reassess your current hair care routine and switch to ultra-hydrating hair care and treatment products, such as L'Oréal Professionnel Nourishing Mythic Oil. And speaking of washing your hair, be gentle when applying any shampoo and conditioner – rubbing too vigorously discourages the follicles from lying flat, which ultimately makes them more prone to static and frizz.
Choose a brush with ionic technology
Many of us wouldn't give the type of hairbrush we use a second thought. However if it seems like your hair is especially undisciplined and static prone, the answer may lie in the brush you're currently using. Switch to a quality brush with ionic technology as this will neutralise hair static by re balancing your hair's ion ratio. Also, beware of over brushing, as the friction can also be a trigger for static.
Look at your environment
Dry air is one of the biggest culprits when it comes to frizz, so if you're running that air conditioner 24/7 over summer, it may explain why your hair is feeling a little more static prone than usual. Consider investing in a humidifier, or simply fill a bowl of water and place nearby to your air conditioner unit overnight to diffuse moisture into the room and reduce the likelihood of waking up to a hot static mess.
