Did you know that it's actually possible to damage your hair overnight? Here are a few tips to make sure your locks can get their beauty sleep while you do!
Many people believe that tight buns and plaits are good styles to sleep in, because they keep the hair out of the way and can leave you with awesome waves in the morning. The truth is, while these styles are great at keeping your hair out of the way, if they are too tight they can leave your hair worse for wear in the damage department. Super tight styles will actually end up pulling at the roots of your hair while you turn at night, putting both your hair and scalp under strain.
If you are going to wear your hair up overnight, opt for a low slung loose plait to one side, or a very high loose top knot, to minimise rubbing the lengths of your hair on your pillowcase while you sleep. This is also a great way to get more longevity out of clean or blow-dried hair!
Our editors also swear by satin pillowcases for protecting their tresses overnight, suggesting that the softer fabric minimises friction. Give it a go!
Overnight hair care
While we wouldn't recommend raking a lot of products through your hair before you sleep (hello gross pillowcase!) a few drops of a hydrating product like through the lengths of your locks before sleeping can work wonders. Applying this product 1-2 times a week will help your hair become softer, stronger and more shiny! Who wouldn't want that?
