From double denim to neon accessories and mixed prints, it's time to embrace your inner nineties raver with space buns!
Gwen Stefani and Björk might have brought the double bun onto the fashion world's radar thirty years ago, but the new generation is now taking the trend for themselves. Bye bye double bun, and hello space bun.
The Bun Strikes Back
"What's a space bun?" you might ask.
Inspired by a certain fictional Princess from another galaxy, space buns are bigger and slightly messier than their 90s relatives. Perched high up on the head, they can look like cute mouse ears or edgy headphones.
Space bun variations
We love two-in-one space buns when they're constructed using a twisting technique – another top trend this season. Create two high ponytails secured with small transparent elastics, then twist each section around your finger tightly so that the hair curls naturally around itself. Finally, tuck the end invisibly into the elastic or secure with bobby pins. Use a strong-hold hairspray like L'Oréal Professionnel's best-selling for a long-lasting and natural finish with maximum shine.
Alternatively, you could opt for a more messy look, styling your hair into two ballerina buns and then teasing out sections of the hair using a tail comb. For added texture, even on unwashed hair, spray some onto the roots before brushing and styling. For a real nod to the nineties, pull two 1-inch sections of hair down at the front of the face.
Combine your space buns with fun, colourful make-up, bright neon accessories and/or graphic on-trend prints, for a look that's bang on trend, and perfect for festivals like Splendour In The Grass.
