"My Name is Odd" blogger Aude Sakamari reveals his exclusive fashion and hairstyling insights from backstage at the Alexandre Vauthier runway show

Tell us a little about your experience at the Alexandre Vauthier runway show...

I was invited to the runway show of the French designer Alexandre Vauthier held at the Grand Palais (Paris, France.) I was lucky enough to be able to go backstage before and after the show thanks to L'Oréal Professionnel who worked with hair artist Sam McKnight on the model's hairstyles, so I was able to see the entire process.

Who were the stand-out models on the runway?

Without a doubt, Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner! Every lens was focused entirely on then. I also enjoyed watching Cindy Bruna, the beautiful French-Italian-Congolese model who was in the last Victoria's Secrets show.

Was there a theme to the show?

I'd say: 80s rock meets haute couture. There were combinations of micro-shorts worn with incredibly detailed tops in fine materials like organza with a train behind, but there were also super-short satiny dresses, either sleeveless or with asymmetric large shoulders.

How did Sam McKnight style the models' hair?

The models mostly wore wavy hairstyles inspired by the 80s with either their hair swept over to one side, or a part down the centre. Overall, the look was quite wavy, with a light and natural feeling.

Could any of the runway hairstyles translate off the runway and into the real world?

Absolutely all of them. That said, it might look easy to achieve this look but that's not necessarily the case: there are specific techniques that were used to create that perfectly controlled volume and glamour.

Did you pick up any expert hairstyle tips while you were backstage?

The wavy look was created by first spraying the lengths of the hair with L'Oréal Professionnel Infinium Hairspray and then wrapping each section around a finger and clipping the hair into place. The clipped hair was then sprayed again with hairspray and left to set. Once the curls were released, a flat brush was used to brush out the waves so that it didn't look too curly.

Lastly, what was the atmosphere like backstage?

Intense. There were so many people running around everywhere. On one side of the room, there were journalists who were eager to chat the designer. On the other side of the room people were fitting clothes onto the models and getting them ready as they arrived from other shows. It was a great atmosphere but frenetic!
