The messy bun is every girl's best friend. It's there to hold your hand (or your hair) when you haven't had time to wash your locks in a while but still want to look semi stylish, and it can even be accessorised in several ways to be even more versatile. Here are three of our favourite hair accessories to jazz up your
We love a good head scarf stylin' and it's helpful that this accessory is also so on trend right now. The scarf can be styled in a variety of ways, like the 'Old Hollywood' which exudes glamour and involves securing your silk scarf under the chin or down below your bun like a headband. The 'French Riviera' takes a different tack and sees its wearer wrapping a scarf around the bun itself, so the ends are either flowing out or secured with a bobby pin. You can even try a 'Retro revival' and tie the scarf upwards so you have a cute top knot above your forehead. The great thing about this accessory is that no matter how messy your bun is, the scarf smooths out any flyaways around your face, and what happens behind that doesn't even really matter.
Headbands are even easier to secure than a head scarf, simply choose your style and slide right in. From thin Alice bands, to blinged up embellished headbands, there is no shortage of variety when it comes to finding something to suit your style. Experiment with both a slicked back look securing all your hair under your band, versus placing the headband midway back on your head so you have some of your fringe and loose strands of hair in front of it. The latter is a softer option, and can help ease the severity of a look where all your hair is perfectly in place.
A simple way to elevate your messy bun is to wrap a lil' ribbon around it, immediately adding a touch of whimsy to an otherwise everyday look. You don't have to go with a full taffeta bow either (in fact we really hope you don't do that), we've seen some amazing chic leather ribbons on the runway recently that look perfectly elegant tied downwards over a high messy bun. Leave the ends hanging loose down the back of your head for a romantic twist, or wrap several times around the base of the bun to add some visual interest.
